Betsi and I took a two and a half week vacation to Hawaii and Australia from August 11-28th. We left Ryan at home with friends and family. We missed each other during the trip, but we think Ryan would have been happier staying at home. The changes in the time zones and being away from a bed for a nap 12 hours at a stretch would have been tough on him - and us. Betsi's brother, Andy, and his wife, Tracey, live in Perth, Australia. We always wanted to visit, but the high airline ticket prices kept us from going. A friend of ours, Brian Collins, took a new job assignment with his company that moved him to Sydney for a year. Then the airlines were running a reduced airfare that included up to two stop-overs for no additional charge. Bingo! We decided upon Hawaii because everyone who has ever gone absolutely loved it. Now we had a free place to stay and free transportation in Australia and just needed a hotel and rental car for 4 days in Hawaii. It was about as inexpensive as we were ever going to get.
