The kids are having fun with glow sticks on Labor Day.  Each year, about a dozen families gather for a barbeque in the cul-de-sac behind our house.  It's always fun and a great way to catch up with friends. See more photos.

Ainsley is feeling more grown up with a robe and her hair up in a towel.

This was shot without a flash at ISO 1600. If I had to do it again, I'd add a little bit of flash to get rid of the dark circles around her eyes and to make the colors pop out more.

The first day of school for Ryan (4th grade) and Ainsley (1st grade).  Ryan has textbooks this year which made his backpack extra heavy.  As always, every parent had a camera that day.

This is Ainsley's first soccer game in her life and she did quite well.  At this age, there aren't any goalies, the fields are small, and it's four on four.  The teams are split in two and play two fields at once.  See more photos.

I took a few short video clips between photos and put the best few together.  Watch the video (5.2MB, 1:09) as the Tigers take on the Pink Panthers.

The Allens visited to make for a fun weekend.  Monday came too soon.  See more photos.

This is Dulles Airport about 20 minutes before sunrise (upper left) and 10 minutes before sunrise (left).  I drove to the top level of a parking garage and placed the camera on a tripod for long exposures.  I like when the sky turns navy blue sky and it's light enough to see detail on the ground.  The photo in the upper left corner is at 18mm while the other two are at 70mm.

Green algae is growing in the pool that its closed for the season. The kiddie pool is still blue.  Guess which one has more chlorine in it?  The photo on the left was taken at 8:45am on the 10th and the one on the right was taken at 4:50pm on the 15th.  The time of day and the intensity of the sun make a big difference on the colors.

Ainsley runs through a sprinkler as we walk Shadow one evening.

Sometimes, you just have to take the photo when you see it.  This photo was taken at 8:00am.  I liked the clouds and the reflection in the water, but the colors were a bit flat.  I came back to this spot 10 minutes later when the sun's golden rays started to show, but all that was left was a cloudless sky.  Boring.

Ryan impressed us Saturday morning with a drum solo.  Watch the video too (4.6MB, 1:02).

Ainsley is showing a lot of enthusiasm as she always wants to throw the ball in from the sidelines or make goal kicks.  Ainsley likes making the smiles from orange slices at half time.  She is celebrating after her second goal for the game against the Red Devils.

This is before our 5 mile (8km) bike ride from our house to Reston Town Center.  The kids were great and there wasn't any complaining.  We ate dinner at Rio Grande Cafe and biked home before the sunset.  After a shower, we watched Roy at his nighttime baseball game, which is unusual for 9 year old players. None of us were sore the next day either.  We opted not to repeat it the next day for ice cream at Ben and Jerry's though.

After a week of wiggling, Ainsley lost her front tooth a few days before school picture day.

Ah, the annual Fall Cub Scout camp out at Burke Lake Park.  Now that the boys in the Den are Jr. Webelos, they are expected to carry more responsibility for the weekend.  They provided a list of things to bring, helped set up the tents, built a fire, prepared dinner, and helped pack the next morning.  Betsi, Ainsley and Shadow joined us around dinner time after her soccer game.  See more photos.

Jeff took Shadow for a quick walk at 4:30am.  We returned, entered the tent, and I turned around to close the door starting with the zipper at the top of the door.  By the time Jeff reached the bottom of the door and turned around, Shadow had escaped.  Without her collar to make noise, a black dog in the middle of the night is hard to find.  Luckily, she was under the picnic table looking for food.

See more photos as I walked through our neighborhood every day.  They include photographic data.
