    December 2003 Previous  Next

December 5th brought our first snow this winter with 4 inches of snow followed by 2 inches of snow 12 hours later as a second storm passed by.  We had intermittent rain and sleet that helped pack the snow.  Twenty miles west of us only had snow and received 10 to 12 inches.

We remodeled the kitchen again.  The photo on the left is what the kitchen looked like for the first two years.  The photo on the left was taken in April 2000 when Betsi painted the dark cabinets white, replaced the dishwasher, and added a blue solid surface countertop.  Our biggest complaint was the shelves were fixed at 9 inches tall which never allowed for a box of crackers, cereal, or medium sized bottles to fit on any of the shelves.  Anything tall had to be stored in the garage or the lower cabinet next to the sink.

In October and November, we hired a contractor to replace the kitchen cabinets, appliances, floor, and lights, but kept the countertop.  We fixed some of the drywall and repainted most everything in December.  We love it!  The soffits were removed near the ceiling to allow for a 36 inch tall top cabinet instead of a 24 inch one.  All of the shelves are adjustable height.  As you can see there are many pull out drawers for easy access.  We moved the refrigerator to add a floor to ceiling pantry and broom closet.  We added recessed lighting with dimmer switches and under the cabinet lighting which made a night a day difference on the warm glow of the cabinets.  To tie it all together, we chose a snap and lock floor that looks like tile.  It has blue, tan, and gray that brings all of the colors together.  We also replaced the floor in the front entrance way and repainted the walls.  The only downside to remodel is that it's contagious.  We want to remodel the bathrooms next.

We went to see Santa so that the kids to tell him what they wanted for Christmas.  Ainsley was afraid to sit on Santa's lap, so only Ryan got his picture taken.  The kids stopped playing with their new Christmas toys long enough to take a picture.
